Vernon Hairston Trio

Trio (Piano, Bass, Drums)

The Vernon Hairston Trio consists of Reggie Jackson on drums, Dwight Bailey on bass, and Vernon Hairston on piano and vocals. The Vernon Hairston Trio formed in August of 2006. The Trio has been playing around Columbus and Ohio on a regular basis at various restaurants, private parties and ceremonies. The Trio was especially requested to play for the Tuskegee Airmen’s 50-year reunion in 2007. They also played to a sold out crowd fundraising event for the African American Cancer Support Group Society. In addition, the group played for Chris Gardner’s (Pursuit Of Happiness) personal appearance at a celebration held in his honor at Les Wexner’s Estate. The Vernon Hairston Trio performed at the 2008 Columbus Jazz and Ribfest.

Reggie Jackson (Drums)

Reggie Jackson, a Columbus Ohio native, is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in music performance. While in school, the drummer preformed and recorded with former GRP recording artist Kim Pensyl. After graduation Reggie was fortunate to be hired by jazz legend, and two-time Grammy Award winner Ms. Diane Schuur. While maintaining that chair, Reggie also worked with several underground Hip-Hop artists, which lead to his work with Aftermath recording artist Truth Hurts. While working with both artists, Reggie has preformed in over 20 different countries and on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Because of his versatility he can be heard on several different recordings in styles ranging from jazz, hip-hop, gospel, classical, and R&B. Some current recordings include "Diane Schuur Live in London" on the Concord Label, and " Bobby Floyd Notes to my Friends" on Summit Records. Recordings due to be release in 2008 include "Diane Schuur Some Other Time" on the Heads Up/Concord Label.

Dwight Bailey (Acoustic/Electric Bass)

A native of Detroit, he began his musical journey as a singer and drummer in his local church. At the age of 15, he began playing the electric bass in the church band (Columbus, OH) and in the Linden McKinley High School jazz band. Dwight attended the Ohio State University as a Political Science major but his interests in jazz lead him to take a few jazz combo classes as well as string bass lessons with Doug Richardson, Milton Ruffin, Roger Hines, and Eddie Brookshire. Over the years he has toured/performed with Dawkins & Dawkins, Bobby Jones, Marlon Jordan, Douglas Miller, Sarah Morrow, Wilbert Longmire, LaShun Pace, Pharez Whitted, and many other international and local gospel, R&B and jazz artists. He is currently studying at the American School of Double Bass with Dr. Shao-lan Lee.
